Fulton Texas, The Charm of the Texas Coast

Fulton, TX shares the Live Oak peninsula with Rockport, TX in Aransas County. Often overlooked in the shadow of the larger town of Rockport, Fulton has it’s own unique character and charm. A recent renovation and drainage project created concrete streets, a large new central parking lot, street lights and refurbished storefronts.
Fulton is famous for its harbor, pier, and community center, Paws and Taws, which hosts many local events and activities. Fulton boasts restaurants, hotels, birding tours , bait stands and retail shops which draw tourists and locals.
Real estate in Fulton is an eclectic mixture of  homes on Fulton Beach Rd. that overlook Aransas Bay, family homes, new construction, condominiums, vacation rentals, and cottages. There’s something for everyone.
Locals and visitors look forward to the first week-end in March for the annual Oysterfest Celebration. Sponsored by the Fulton Volunteer Fire Dept., the festival hosts food and retail booths plus a carnival. Oysters harvested from the local bays are the stars of the event. Cooked anyway you want, or eaten raw, they’re FRESH and DELICIOUS.

Welcome to Lamar Peninsula, in Rockport, Texas

LAMAR PENINSULA

Just over the Copano Bay causeway lies the community of Lamar.  The original town, named after Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second President of the Republic of Texas, is gone, but the spirit of the original settlers remains.  The peninsula is surrounded by Aransas, Copano and St. Charles Bays and is home to several waterfront communities including The Reserve, Neptune Harbor and Holiday Beach.

The heart of Lamar, Goose Island State Park,  is the second most used state park in the state of Texas.  It is a favorite of campers, duck hunters and fishermen who favor the long fishing bridge.  Situated directly on Aransas Bay, the park boasts quick access to Copano and St. Charles Bays plus the intercoastal.

The residents of Lamar, or “  Lamartians”, as they like to call themselves, have organized to support the VFD with a huge flea market and BBQ each fall and LamardiGras in the spring.  Don’t miss the LamardiGras parade and crowning of the king and queen.  Second homes and vacation properties are quite popular in this area, and residents (vacationers) enjoy fabulous weather, restaurants and of course the water!

Update: The Boardwalk, Rockport Texas

The Boardwalk atSt. CharlesBay

A relaxed coastal lifestyle, great year-round weather and an abundance of amenities describes theTexascoast. As more and more baby boomers are looking for affordable places to retire, theTexascoast has emerged as one of the nation’s hottest real estate markets. Pristine beaches, year round fishing, and affordable pricing are attracting people from across the country.  It’s for these same reasons, that Hal Jones Development LLC, in partnership with Red McCombs Enterprises purchased 164 acres alongSt. CharlesBayinLamar,Texasa few years ago. Together, they are developing The Boardwalk atSt. CharlesBay, a luxury waterfront property near Rockport.  Striving to balance nature and man, Hal Jones Development takes great pride in the development of The Boardwalk. “Our mission is to work in harmony with the natural elements of the land” said Hal Jones, developer. “The end result is a well thought out development that coexists peacefully within the natural landscape, the wildlife and the community.”  Each property in The Boardwalk is waterfront and maximizes breezes, views, and incorporates indigenousTexasarchitecture giving a sense of place and purpose to the land. The development is adjacent toGooseIslandState Parkand is a lagoon style master planned community featuring 62 residential lots, consisting of 42 exclusive bay front home sites and 20 lake front home sites.  Each lot has optimum views, water access and its own boat dock or private pier slip.  Although The Boardwalk atSt. CharlesBayis one of several new communities under development along theTexascoast, it is the only one that boasts a bayside, lighted boardwalk. Residents can stroll the length of the boardwalk, enjoying the cool breezes and watching the sunset. Home sites are strategically located above the boardwalk to take full advantage of the expansive bay views, yet remain sheltered from boardwalk strollers. The Boardwalk also features the option of building a single-story home, because they have built up the land above the requirements of FEMA. This is a feature not frequently seen along theTexascoast. Jones goes on to say, “We chose this particular location to build The Boardwalk because of the amenities and conveniences already in place in Rockport. Other communities have yet to establish the infrastructure and conveniences that people demand. Rockport already enjoys not only year round fishing, wonderful dining choices, numerous attractions and great shopping; it also has one of the finest airports on the coast.  All these things combined with the incredible beauty of the land, made it an easy decision.” Indeed, anglers agree.St. CharlesBayoffers an endless variety of opportunities to cast a line.  The salt water marsh habitat along with good fresh water inflows from the rivers and constant tidal exchange creates the perfect estuary for shrimp, crabs and fingerlings.(baby fish)  During the summer and fall months kayakers fish along the bay’s north shoreline to discover tailing redfish and a large concentration of speckled trout.  When the water is clear, and the light Gulf breeze is just right, they head to the bay’s eastern shoreline for firm, light sand bottoms ideal for wade fishing and site casting.  Fly fishers can enjoy combing the endless miles of shallow flat lands, creeks and channels to find glimmering redfish and speckled trout. NearbyGooseIslandState Parkis a haven for finding drum, flounder and sheepshead, as well as for crabbing and oystering.  Those desiring a deep salt water fishing experience head out into the Gulf for blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish.

In addition to fishing, there are plenty of other amenities to enjoy. Rockport is a true seaside community with something for everyone. For those looking for great food, Rockport has an abundance of great restaurants from casual bayside fare to fine dining to please the most sophisticated palate. Find the freshest selection of gulf coast seafood prepared deliciously, as well as authentic BBQ, Mexican, Italian and Vietnamese cuisines, all just minutes away. For exceptional shopping, there is downtown Rockport with over 60 unique shops, antiques, art galleries, vintage books stores and chic boutiques.  Rockport also enjoys many annual events that are attended by people from far and wide. Among the most popular are the Babes on the Bay Fishing Tournament in May, the Rockport Art Festival in July as well as Seafair in October, which features fresh from the bay seafood, live entertainment and crab races.

Now that the boardwalk has been completed, there are two model homes built. These homes, built by Gulf Coast Luxury Homes, range from 2200 to 3800 square feet and feature typical coastal architecture. The homes boast large open areas affording vistas of the bay from virtually every room. Large covered porches and patios are accessed from the first floor, while large covered balconies are off the upstairs living area and bedrooms. The gourmet  kitchens have abundant cabinetry with granite countertops and stainless appliances. Beautiful wood floors are present throughout, with the exception of the kitchens and baths which feature natural stone. Stop by for a tour.
