Lake Travis As Seen From Ranch Road 620

Life is as good as it gets in the Lake Travis area. Few places offer the same combination of glorious scenery, urban activity and outdoor recreation possibilities. Situated 20 miles northwest of Austin, Lake Travis presents residents and visitors with a grand natural environment where the lake, woods and hills come together in pristine harmony.

Lake Travis is considered the Crown Jewel of the Highland Lakes in Central Texas. It is 63.75 miles long and 4 miles wide at its widest point and covers 18,929 acres with a total 271 miles of shoreline. Shaped like a dragon, Lake Travis has numerous secluded coves and inlets to explore. When Lake Travis is full, its average depth is 62 feet with a maximum depth of 210 feet.

Lake Travis serves as the primary flood control reservoir of the Highland Lake chain which means that the level of the lake can vary dramatically, depending on the amount of rainfall in the Colorado River basin upstream. Despite this, the lake furnishes one of the most desired locations in the region for outdoor recreation, including fishing, boating, swimming, scuba diving, picnicking and camping. Lake Travis is generally considered one of the clearest lakes in Texas and is a vital water supply for the nearby city of Austin and the surrounding metropolitan areas.
