Welcome to the Village of Surfside Beach Texas, an incorporated coastal community on the Texas Gulf Coast. Surfside Beach is considered the Cradle of Texas where some of the “Original 300 Settlers” first set foot on Texas soil.  Home to the famous Fort Velasco, Surfside is the location where the first battle prior to the war for Texas Independence was fought and where Santa Ana signed the Treaty of Velasco recognizing Texas as an Indepndent country.

Geography

Surfside Beach is located at 28°57′08″N 95°17′04″W / 28.952136°N 95.284415°W / 28.952136; -95.284415Coordinates: 28°57′08″N 95°17′04″W / 28.952136°N 95.284415°W / 28.952136; -95.284415 ^[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.8 km²), of which, 1.8 square miles (4.6 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.2 km²) of it (20.09%) is water. Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 763 people, 352 households, and 197 families residing in the city. The population density was 427.7 people per square mile (165.5/km²). There were 879 housing units at an average density of 492.7/sq mi (190.7/km²). 

 

There were 352 households out of which 19.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.5% were married couples living together,  32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.68.

In the city the population was spread out with 18.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 33.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 111.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 118.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $37,778, and the median income for a family was $43,333.
